Books

Please Read Me is a scrappy compilation of quirky, coming of age short stories with a sprinkle of poems. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll feel uncomfortable.

Please Read Me

In 2013, I graduated with my MFA in creative writing. Please Read Me is the culmination of that journey. I created a manuscript for my program and tucked it away thinking it may never see the light of day. Cue summer of 2023, married with three children, I decided to do something for myself and get my creative juices going again. I made some edits, figured out self-publishing, and went for it!

Laugh Like A Mother is a collection of poetry and anecdotes making light of the common chaos that comes along with raising children.

Laugh Like A Mother

In 2018, I became a Mom. It’s been an emotional roller coaster ever since…a loop-de-loop, high-speed coaster at that. With the blind confidence I gained after self-publishing Please Read Me, I decided in the winter of 2024 to get all my Motherhood frustrations out through comical poetry and anecdotes. I released Laugh Like A Mother just in time for Mother’s day in 2024.

“You will absolutely be entertained by this book. The characters in Ells’ shorts are so charmingly and frustratingly real and relatable, you might start to feel like you’re reading back on some of your old diary entries; the sweet, the bittersweet and the hilariously awkward. These stories are immersive and carefully curated making this snack-sized read feel like a full feast worth of entertainment. For anyone who has ever known the trials and joys of being a young girl, a teenager, a woman- this book is for you.”

“A collection of thoughtful and entertaining poems about the ups and downs of parenthood. The writer has a talent for seeing the humor in even the unpleasant days. You can feel the love. Her honesty is refreshing in these days of social media making it seem parenthood is all rainbows and unicorns. The poems and stories are funny and uplifting, and a great follow-up to her previous publication, Please Read Me. A very talented writer!”
